Six active yellow-level warnings have been issued across five South African provinces due to adverse weather conditions, including damaging winds, disruptive rainfall, and severe thunderstorms. These alerts, particularly three Yellow Level 4 warnings, have significant implications for both coastal and inland areas. The coastline stretching from Alexander Bay in the Northern Cape to Plettenberg Bay in the Western Cape is under threat from damaging winds and waves, which could affect ports, harbors, and marine navigation.
In addition to the coastal warnings, a Yellow Level 4 alert for damaging winds is impacting parts of the Northern and Western Cape. This warning highlights the potential for damage to infrastructure, temporary structures, and utilities. Another Level 4 warning has been issued for disruptive rainfall in the Western Cape, where flooding poses a risk to roads, settlements, and traffic flow.
Three Yellow Level 2 warnings are also in place, with disruptive rainfall expected along the Eastern Cape coast and its eastern regions. Meanwhile, severe thunderstorms are predicted for the western Free State, bringing strong winds, hail, lightning, and the possibility of falling trees.
Furthermore, a Yellow Level 2 warning for damaging winds is affecting the western parts of the Western Cape and the northern interior areas of the Eastern Cape, with potential impacts on temporary structures, settlements, and transport routes. In central South Africa, including much of KwaZulu-Natal, extremely high fire danger has been highlighted as a concern.
