Togo has taken a significant step towards enhancing regional integration by launching a visa-free entry policy for citizens of all African nations. Effective from May 18, this new regulation permits travelers to visit Togo for up to 30 days without needing a visa. This initiative is part of the country’s broader ambitions to bolster tourism, trade, and business opportunities across the continent.
While the visa requirement has been lifted, travelers must still comply with immigration, security, and public health protocols. Additionally, visitors are required to submit a travel declaration online at least 24 hours before their arrival to secure the necessary entry documentation. This streamlined process aims to ease travel while maintaining essential safety and health standards.
The Togolese government has underscored this policy as a testament to its dedication to transforming Togo into a hub of mobility, cooperation, and economic opportunity within Africa. Officials anticipate that this move will not only attract tourists but also lure investors, entrepreneurs, and skilled professionals, thereby strengthening economic ties within the region.
This policy aligns with Togo’s strategic vision to position its capital, Lomé, as a central hub for trade, investment, and services in the West African region. Furthermore, it reflects the continent-wide efforts to reduce travel barriers, supporting the objectives of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). By facilitating easier movement of people, Togo joins other African countries like Rwanda, Ghana, and Benin, which have implemented similar measures to enhance economic cooperation.
