Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Tsepo Masilela has emphasized the importance of the club signing more seasoned Bafana Bafana players to maintain competitiveness with teams like Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates. Masilela pointed out that while the Chiefs have made several new additions ahead of the 2026/27 season, bolstering the squad with proven national team talent is essential for contending for major titles.

Masilela praised the potential of goalkeeper Brandon Petersen and attacking midfielder Mduduzi Shabalala, suggesting they have the capability to become regulars for Bafana Bafana. However, he noted that Shabalala needs to consistently enhance his performance and increase his goal contributions to secure a spot in the national team.

The former defender also highlighted midfielder Sphephelo “Yaya” Sithole as a strategic acquisition for Kaizer Chiefs. Masilela believes that strengthening the team’s midfield with a robust defensive player like Sithole could significantly enhance its overall performance, providing the necessary support to the existing midfield lineup.

While acknowledging the new players already integrated into the team, Masilela insists on the necessity of recruiting established South African internationals. He argues that such signings would be pivotal in restoring the club’s ability to vie for major trophies, thereby elevating their competitive stature in the league.
